Discovering a mysterious lake, “hanging” in a cave in Quang Binh

The lake is surrounded by stalactites with an underground river system below; This clear, jade green water color is temporarily named the suspended lake.

Information from Junglee Boss Co., Ltd. (with address in Phong Nha town, Bo Trach district, Quang Binh), during a recent cave exploration trip, the unit’s survey team discovered a mysterious lake in the cave. a sub-branch of Thung cave, belonging to Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park.

This lake is located about 1 km from the cave entrance, has a surface area of more than 100 m2, surrounded by stalactite columns. What’s special is that the lake is located about 15m higher than the main underground river branch in the cave, so it looks like it is “hanging” on the cave wall.

Because there is not enough diving equipment, the survey team has not yet measured the depth of the lake, and has not yet found the source of water flowing here. Due to the unique location of the lake, the survey team temporarily named it Suspended Lake.

In addition, the group also discovered a passage halfway up the wall of Thung cave across the main underground river branch. 

Hung Thoong cave system is one of the most pristine places of Phong Nha – Ke Bang. Hung in Phong Nha people’s language means valley.

The Hung Thoong system or Thoong valley is very unique and special with many caves located deep in the strictly protected area of Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park, surrounded by a million-year-old limestone mountain system. and primary forests.
