To get to Meo Vac, visitors will need to travel to Ha Giang first. Currently, there are many bus companies to Ha Giang, you can refer to buy tickets with prices from 200-250,000 VND/ 1 way. Learning about the means of transportation will help you understand the schedule and not miss the plan.

How to get there

Tourists can choose to travel by motorbike or bus from Ha Giang to Meo Vac. If traveling by motorbike, tourists can travel along Highway 4C, but need to be careful because it is a steep mountain pass road so it is quite dangerous. Meanwhile, traveling by bus, you will need to catch a trip at Ha Giang bus station.

- Motorbike: This is the most popular means of transport in Meo Vac due to the rugged mountainous terrain. Visitors can rent motorbikes in towns or villages to visit tourist attractions.

- Car: Tourists can travel to Meo Vac by private car or taxi if they are traveling in a large group. However, calling a taxi is often quite difficult, as very few companies accept the risk of traveling in the highlands and steep passes. 

- Walking: Visitors can walk to explore tourist attractions near Meo Vac town center.

Best time to visit

Tourists can visit Meo Vac at any time of the year because the beauty of this place is very diverse, wearing different colors at each time. You should pay attention to the seasonal characteristics to prepare necessary items. Winter here usually lasts from October to April of the following year, and the rainy season will start from April to September, the rest of the time is the dry season.

However, if you want to immerse yourself in the poetic scenery of buckwheat fields, you can go to Meo Vac from October to December according to the Gregorian calendar. At this time, buckwheat flowers bloom, with many colors so you can admire the beautiful scenery and have extremely beautiful check-in photos.

NHO QUE RIVER

Nho Que River originates from Nghiem Son mountain area (Yunnan, China) flows in the Northwest-Southeast direction, through Dong Van and Meo Vac districts of Ha Giang province , then joins Gam river in Ly Bon commune, Bao Lam district, Cao Bang province. The river is 192 km long, the part in Vietnam is 46 km long, winding through layers of cat ear rocks to create strong currents. Particularly in Tu San gorge and Ma Pi Leng pass in Meo Vac, the river flows gently, winding along the rocky mountains, the water is clear blue.

In 2009, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism ranked this area as a Vietnam scenic relic. Nho Que River Valley was honored as one of the unique tectonic valleys in Vietnam.

Visitors to Nho Que River can try boating, kayaking, and SUP. It will take about an hour to travel from the pass to the boat dock and back, through winding roads.

Motorboat service price: 120,000 VND per adult and 60,000 VND per child. Kayak and SUP 100,000 VND per person.

MA PI LENG PASS

Ma Pi Leng is one of the "four great mountain passes" in the Northern mountainous region, along with O Quy Ho (Lao Cai - Lai Chau), Pha Din (Dien Bien) and Khau Pha (Yen Bai). The pass is known as the king of the passes in the Northwest region, a dangerous route, located in Pa Vi and Pai Lung communes, Meo Vac district and Ta Lung commune, Dong Van district.

Ma Pi Leng Pass is located at an altitude of 1,200 m, 20 km long on the Happiness Road connecting Ha Giang city with Dong Van and Meo Vac districts. From the top of Ma Pi Leng, visitors can admire the panoramic view of the rocky plateau. The majestic mountain scenery with steep cliffs on one side and the deep abyss of Nho Que River on the other side.

TU SAN CANYON

Tu San Gorge is located at the foot of Ma Pi Leng, on the Nho Que River. The very close distance between the two canyons combined with the green color of the river creates a majestic, poetic scene. To reach Tu San Gorge, visitors must take a boat or canoe for about 20 minutes from the Nho Que upstream wharf.

Many years ago, when there was no hydroelectric dam on Nho Que River, very few people could approach the foot of the steep and dangerous gorge, and could only admire this majestic scenery when stopping at the bends on Ma Pi Leng Road. After the hydroelectric dam was blocked, Nho Que River became quieter, and people started to use boats to take tourists to the foot of the cliff.

KHAU VAI LOVE MARKET

Khau Vai love market, also known as "rich market", is held on the 27th of the third lunar month every year. The market is over 100 years old, located in Khau Vai village, Khau Vai commune, 180 km from Ha Giang city. The market is a place for people to find each other after one or many years apart. What is special about the tradition is that there are many couples who come to the market together, the wife looking for her friend, the husband looking for his friend, without jealousy, without anger, respecting each other.

However, Khau Vai love market is being commercialized, gradually losing its rustic look and original meaning. Now the market sells many types of goods like other markets.
