Spend a day in the countryside with Ba Vi Eco Tour, meeting families who share their skills, food and everyday routines with visitors. This private trip from Hanoi combines tea making, a home-cooked lunch and gentle outdoor activities, with time to talk to your hosts along the way.

“I really felt like I got an insight into the local way of life and it did not feel like a show for the tourist.” _Marie_

Around 50 km from central Hanoi, Ba Vi offers a change of pace: villages near the Da River, mountain views, rice fields and tropical gardens.

Harvest tea with a Vietnam War veteran

The itinerary introduces you to three local families. Activities depend on the season and your hosts’ availability, so your guide will confirm the arrangements for your visit.

Harvesting tea with a local host in Ba Vi
At Ri village, meet Mr Duoc and walk through his tea farm. When conditions allow, help pick the leaves and learn how they are rolled and dried.

Over tea and homemade snacks, Mr Duoc may share memories of his life, including his experiences during the Vietnam War. Let him guide the conversation and share what he feels comfortable discussing.

“On the way home, we visited a Tea Farm, owned by an ex-Vietcong veteran. This was so special asking him personal questions about his experiences in the war. He was lucky to survive a bullet graze to the head & of course the agent orange & other chemical warfare.”  _Andrew_

Cook a Vietnamese lunch

A cooking experience with a local host in Ba Vi
Your next host, Mrs Chin, welcomes you into her home for a cooking session. Help prepare Vietnamese dishes, then enjoy what you have made over lunch in her garden.

“…Mrs. Chin invites you to her home for a cooking demonstration where you get to enjoy your efforts with fabulous lunch in her beautiful garden. You’ll meet people to show you how to make tofu, shell the rice, and make a tradition conical hat! The locals will show you their village, their happy-go-lucky kids in the school playground that are eager to say ‘hello’ and be part of your photo…” _Richard_

Visiting a village workshop in Ba Vi
After a short break, explore the village with your host. Visits to small workshops offer a closer look at local crafts and food production. Ask before photographing people, and follow your guide’s advice around homes and schools.
Cycle through the countryside

A leisurely bike ride takes you past the lake, rice fields and banana plantations. There is time to enjoy the scenery and stop along the way; your guide can adapt the route to the group.

A traditional herbal foot bath in Ba Vi
After cycling, visit Mrs Chinh, a member of the Muong community. She prepares a traditional herbal foot bath—a relaxing way to pause after the ride.

A boat trip on the Da River rounds off the day, subject to weather and river conditions, before the journey back to Hanoi.

This is a day for slowing down, trying something new and getting to know your hosts through shared activities.
