More than a place on the map

Around Dong Khoi, landmarks such as the Central Post Office and Opera House connect the city's history with everyday life. A guided walk helps bring their stories together. Check interior visits separately, as seeing a building from outside does not guarantee access inside.
Cholon, with its Chinese heritage, Binh Tay Market and Thien Hau Temple, offers a different experience from the grand avenues of the centre. Give it a dedicated part of the day, with time to walk and look around.
Banh mi, banh xeo and com tam are delicious starting points. Choose a manageable tasting experience and ask about ingredients and accompaniments. A relaxed meal of several small dishes can be as rewarding as a longer street-food tour.
For a first visit, aim for two usable days as well as time to arrive and leave. A centrally located hotel is convenient for independent evenings, but the actual street and room location matter more than the label 'central'.
Choose one main focus per half-day. Leave enough time for museums, and discuss the content of war-history exhibitions in advance if travelling with children or anyone who may find it upsetting.
Check the airport and terminal on your actual booking, and provide your flight number and date for pick-up. Tan Son Nhat is a major arrival point, but your confirmed flight details should guide the arrangements. Avoid tightly timed sightseeing immediately after landing.
Cu Chi and the Mekong Delta are separate excursions with substantial travel time. A clear route, such as the city followed by several nights in the delta, reduces backtracking. If flying onward to an island, plan the road journey and airport connection together.
The city is warm year-round. December to April is often a drier period, while wetter months can bring heavy showers. The timing and pace of your day matter as much as the month.
In hot weather, start sightseeing early, take a longer midday break and enjoy a shorter evening walk. A museum or food experience can work well during rain. Leave some flexibility instead of filling every hour with reservations.
Keep your hotel address available offline and a backup payment method separate from your daily wallet. Group sights by location and check walking distances, transport and included entrance fees before a tour.
Share allergies and dietary preferences before food experiences, and ask about portion sizes. For shopping, agree prices and any collection or delivery arrangements. Keep the last day manageable so purchases and sightseeing do not put your airport transfer under pressure.
