Archive: In July 2024, visitors holding eligible passports from 93 countries and territories gained access to a new visa-exemption scheme for Thailand. The historical policy described below should not be used as current entry guidance.

The scheme took effect on 15 July 2024 and expanded the list of eligible nationalities.

At its introduction, qualifying visitors could receive permission to stay for up to 60 days, with a possible extension subject to immigration approval.

It formed part of a wider package of visa measures announced by the Thai government in 2024.

The aim was to support tourism and the wider economy following the pandemic.

The package also expanded eligibility for visa on arrival, which is a separate arrangement with its own conditions.

Another measure introduced the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV), aimed at eligible remote workers and participants in specified activities such as Thai cooking courses and Muay Thai training.

The DTV was introduced with five-year validity and stays of up to 180 days per entry, subject to its conditions—not 180 days per calendar year.

Education-related measures were also announced for eligible graduates. Each category had separate requirements.

For current requirements, consult the official Thai e-Visa website and your local Thai embassy.
