A jade-green lake surrounded by cave formations was reported inside Thung Cave, with an underground river running below it. Its unusual position led the exploration team to call it the “Suspended Lake”.
Adventure operator Jungle Boss described the discovery during a survey of a branch of Thung Cave in Phong Nha–Ke Bang National Park.
According to the team’s initial account, the lake lay about one kilometre from the entrance, covered more than 100 square metres and sat around 15 metres above the main underground river.
The team had not established the lake’s depth or water source at the time of the report, as it did not have the necessary diving equipment. “Suspended Lake” was a provisional name.
The survey also identified a passage partway up the cave wall above the main river.

Thung Cave forms part of the Hung Thoong area, whose name refers to a valley in local usage.
The area lies within the protected landscape of Phong Nha–Ke Bang, surrounded by limestone and forest. The discovery should not be read as an invitation to explore independently; ask an authorised operator about permitted routes and current access.
