Getting here and travelling onwards

Mai Chau is reached by road from Hanoi and can be combined with a visit around Ba Vi. Continuing to Pu Luong extends the countryside route. Consider travel and activities together so the trip does not become a succession of long transfers.

Weather and the best time to visit

Rice fields change with the growing season. In summer, plan active outings early or late in the day; in cooler evenings, an extra layer is welcome. When it rains, we choose suitable village paths and adapt cycling plans.

Not every room in a traditional house has a private bathroom. Discuss comfort, stairs and sleeping preferences in advance. Dress modestly for village visits and small temples, and ask before photographing people during personal encounters.
